Finish

  • After making contact with the ball, the upper body continues to rotate.  The batter’s hands and bat should travel up and around the body, finishing behind the head.  Finish with your hands held high and your rear leg in the "Power L" position.
  • When finishing your swing, do not allow your head to “pull off” the ball. As the bat finishes around and behind you, keep your head down, and eyes focused on the point of contact.
  • Many good hitters, release their top hand as they finish because it enables them to have a longer, smoother follow through. This technique is only an option if you are strong enough to control your bat with one arm as it circles behind you.   If you choose to use this technique, after making contact with the ball:
    • release your top hand and allow bottom hand to follow through   around and behind your body.
    • After the top hand is released, the top arm will continue moving and wrap around your body.   Finish with the top hand at eye level and the elbow pointing at the pitcher's chest.

All good!  Great body position.  Head down and eyes focused on point of contact.  Front leg is straight with knee locked.  Back foot is up on the toe.  Front foot is at a 45-degree angle to her original toe line.  Batter has swung hard but has maintained good balance with head over her rear leg.

The Good:  This batter has finished high and released her top hand.  Her front elbow is pointing at the pitcher and her left hand is in front of her face.

The Bad:  Batter has allowed her body to drift forward.   Her head is not above the rear leg.  Also, her eyes are looking up in the air rather than staying focused on the point of contact.

All good!  Batter has done a fantastic job keeping her head down and eyes focused on point of contact.  Bat finished high and went around her body.  Waist is pointing at pitcher and chest has turned past the pitcher.  This batter transferred her weight properly and made a powerful swing.
